South Florida Indian Idol Singing Competition 2008
 
South Florida Indian Idol Singing Competition 2008 was conducted on October 18, 2008, 5.pm in the “Shiva Vishnu Temple Community Hall”, 5661 Dykes Road, Southwest Ranches, Florida 33331. The competition was conducted by Nandi Kannada Koota of South Florida in association with South Florida Tamil Sangam and Telugu Association of South Florida.
 
The contest was to promote singing talent and stage performance among the children of South Florida. To raise interest in Indian Language and Popular Music among the children of South Florida and to provide an evening full of fun, entertainment and social interactions for families and friends.

A total of 16 students who participated in the Competition, 9 students were from Middle School and 7 students were from High School.

Trophies were awarded to Winners at the Shiva Vishnu Temple Annual Banquet on October 25, 2008.

Anti-Terrorism Rally
On December 14,2008 more than 300 people gathered at the corner of A1A and Las Olas Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale to march in protest and show solidarity with people at Mumbai, India. It was organized by A coalition of community organizations United against Terrorism. Many of the organizations participated were American against hate, South Florida Hindu Temple, United Hindu front, Ramat Shalom, World Wide Christian Center, Shiva Mandir, Florida Arya Samaj, Shiva Vishnu Temple, Shri Laxmi Narayan Temple, International Kashmir Federation, World Hindu Council of America along with few other Hindu, Jewish, Christian and Indian Organizations. It was a Candle Light Vigil and Peace Rally started with opening chant of Mantras and various speakers from the community. Every one remembered and showed solidarity with the victims of Jihadi Terrorist attacks in Mumbai on November 26,2008.
Later, everyone went across the street to the water and offered flowers. It was very well organized even in the short while notice as it was told to Apna Asia reporter. Gatherings like this every Indian should make every effort to show that we the community in South Florida do care and we are not here to be taken a granted for these uncalled for attacks.
